How to Take Screenshot with Snipping Tool on Microsoft Windows

Snipping Tool on Microsoft WindowsSnipping Tool is a utility application that is used to take screenshot of any part of computer screen. This is one of the best utility application to capture screenshots, this is freely available on windows operating system.

It can take screenshots of an open window, rectangular areas or a free-form areas, or entire screen, It can just annotated using a mouse. Snipped files are stored as .PNG, .GIF or .JPED file format these are the image files formats for snipped files.

There is a basic feature to edit your snipped or captured image on same windows you just highlight and erase some portion of your image.

Windows 7 / Vista 

Open the Snipping tool

  • Click on start menu
  • Go for all programs 
  • Now for accessories

Windows 8 / 8.1 

There is nothing different in windows 8 and 8.1 just press windows key or press windows+q to search every where on computer now type the keyword snipping tool and just hit the enter that it you will get snipping tool application.

Now time to take screenshot in different format

There are various ways to take screenshots like you can see below, Next to the New button you will get down arrow if you click on that button there are various ways like
  1. Free-form snip : you can take screenshot as your wish
  2. Rectangular snip : you can only take screenshot in the form on rectangular shape
  3. Window snip : you can take screenshot of any particular window 
  4. Full-screen snip : this will help you to take full screen with layered windows

After taking screenshot you will get sipper editor, you can edit as per your need and if you want to highlight, there is a feature to highlight.
